Continuing the previous topic of online projects, this Saturday we propose to build a discussion around podcasts about culture.

This format began to spread actively in Ukraine several years ago. Since then, a lot of content on various topics has appeared. Now we have a wide choice of what and whom to listen to today. So we think this phenomenon is worth discussing.

We would like to share with you a teaser for an interesting exhibition on modern and contemporary art from Ukraine — ‘Kaleidoscope of Stories. Ukrainian Art 1912-2023’. It is presented by the Dresden State Art Collections (SKD) Albertinum. The opening will take place on 6 May, and the exhibition will run until 10 September, so if you happen to be in Dresden right now, we highly recommend visiting it. The exhibition features one work from the Artsvit Gallery collection — ‘Maria’ from the series ‘During the War’ (2016) by David Chichkan.

2020 became the year of the online format. Due to the pandemic, everyone turned to it as the only opportunity to present their projects and the results of their long work. Since then, the number of various formats and initiatives in the online space has increased rapidly. The full-scale invasion has once again restricted our mobility. In order to maintain dialogue, the online format remains a good tool for reaching a wider geographical audience.

So this Saturday, we want to draw your attention to various Ukrainian projects that you can follow online.

On February 24, 2022, the lives of Ukrainians were divided into BEFORE and AFTER. Since then, thousands of tragedies have occurred, and today the war continues. Despite everything, we learned not only to survive and fight for freedom but also to continue living and making social changes. All Ukrainian cultural institutions were forced to cancel their programs a year ago. Someone relocated or closed, and others began adapting to new conditions. Especially in cities bordering the front line, such as our Dnipro. Our director Iryna Polikarchuk will soon talk about this experience at a lecture in Poland.

Artsvit Gallery, in collaboration with Galeria Labirynt (Lublin, Poland), is announcing an open call for Ukrainian artists, curators, and researchers. The deadline is 17 June 2023.

If you work with socially critical art, reflect on current processes in society, and use various media and approaches in your work, we invite you to tell us about yourself by applying to participate in the Lublin Station residency at the Galeria Labirynt in 2023–2024. The duration of the residency is 1–2 months.

In previous conversations, we talked about art institutions in Ukraine, i.e. where we can see contemporary art. We did not forget about those who work with contemporary art and create new creative projects themselves.

This time, we suggest looking at exhibitions as a form of project presentation. We will talk about what they are like and how they are created. 

The new iteration of the "Artsvit for Kids" project is definitely happening! An important stage of its development is currently underway, namely the search for teachers.

As a reminder, in February we held an open call and selected several candidates. And last week, on 8 April, they had the first part of an intensive training course on working with children — based on the results of which we will select two participants to develop the project programme for 2023.

Indeed, we received powerful feedback on Konstantin Zorkin's exhibition — ‘Protective Layer’ attracted many people, as the exhibition is still very popular. We want more people to share your pleasant experience so that they too can be inspired and feel this fragile balance of protection and vulnerability embodied in metal and wood.

Gallery talks are gaining momentum and more and more participants are joining us. So from now on, Gallery talks will take place every Saturday.
