The DIYEzmist performance education program aimed to introduce artists to a variety of performative practices, to draw attention to the multifaceted nature of performance by breaking it down into its individual components.
The educational course included lectures, seminars, workshops, work on one's own performance, individual consultations with experts, and presentation of the results. We invited practicing performers Stanislav Turina, Natalka Lisova, Mykola Naboka, Yulia Hryshyna, and Yuriy Kruchak to share their experience. They held workshops on five aspects of performative practices:
♦ body and voice
♦ word and text
♦ movement and space
♦ interaction with materials
♦ participating viewer.
Through an open competition, we selected 10 people from Dnipro and other cities to participate. The educational program lasted 9 weeks, with classes taking place every Sunday from September 20 to November 16.
The program culminated in a public screening of all the performances that took place at the Artsvit gallery and in the public space. The event took place on November 17.
A brief description of the performances by all program participants:
Ira Khvorost
«My performance is part of the exhibition project Ineffable. Both the entire exhibition in general and my performance in particular emphasize the importance of the Ukrainian language.
During the performance, I invite the audience to take a card with a QR code, which will be placed in the hall. By scanning the code, you can learn more about the project and leave your feedback on the performance.
Thank you for your attention and support!»
Tamila Kurilo
«We are made of stories. We share narratives.
What happens when we dare to talk about ourselves? What invisible ties connect us? What happens inside us when we hear the story of another person? How does war change us, our connections and relationships? In what ways are we similar and what makes us unique? 8 personal stories that can resonate with many people»
Daryna Kalinovska — «Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday»
«3 days from my creative life»
Olena Kharakhulakh — «Untitled»
«Diving into your shadow side to explore your fears, the burden of the past and the dead, which clings to your legs like a train and prevents you from moving, squeezing your temples. Being free and strong-willed is always a choice. And this choice requires sacrificing your own past on the altar of your future»
Denis Lukin
«Act 1»
Yegor Kucheruk — «Baba»
«About subordination and the mechanism of removing hegemonic masculinity. About when I became a man and when I did not become a man»
Kateryna Koniushenko
«I would like to work with the given. Since performance is the art of presence, I would like to extend this “magic” not only to the author and the audience, but also to the place.
We are in a space, we leave traces of our presence, we have a relationship with a certain place-even if we come there for a few minutes.
There is a certain unpredictability in the interaction between people and space, and I think this is a real treasure. It's impossible to plan an interaction like a drawing, for example: it's a moment of life, and it doesn't depend on you completely.
*Until the moment of creation, the performance is untitled»
Alisa Epifanova
«An artist who works with the themes of memory, loss, and recovery. Presenting a performance dedication to the Flight Control Center»
Marina Gaba
«I invite you to a performance where we explore the memory of urban space and our relationship with it. Dnipro is a city where changes are constant. If you remember, take a sticker and join me in our collective mapping and recollection.
Join the online broadcast (the second part of the broadcast is here) or meet me on the square. Grab a sticker and go on your own journey through the city, maybe you'll also find the fountain bowls covered with earth.
Changes in public space (squares, streets, parks, courtyards of apartment buildings, etc.) raise the question: who owns these places?
