In December, we are opening an exhibition to showcase the Ukrainian-Polish partnership

We invite you to the opening of the exhibition by Polish artist and curator Waldemar Tatarczuk, which will take place on December17 at 18:30 at the Artsvit Gallery. The project, co-curated by Kateryna Iakovlenko and Stach Szabłowski, is titled “When I Am in Ukraine, Everyone Asks Me About Poland. When I Am in Poland, Everyone Asks Me About Ukraine” – a phrase the artist uses to describe his life between two sociocultural and political contexts. The exhibition will be on view until March14, 2026.

This exhibition is not only about solidarity and dialogue with Ukraine; it also highlights the long-standing Polish-Ukrainian cooperation that Tatarczuk has consistently cultivated for decades. Presenting his artistic practice in Ukraine in such depth for the first time, he continues the trajectory he has been building in Poland, collaborating with Ukrainian artists for a long time.

Waldemar Tatarczuk is well known to the Dnipro audience primarily as a curator and educator. For many years, he led the Labirynt Gallery in Lublin, transforming it into one of the key centres supporting Ukrainian art in Poland. This exhibition marks his return to his own artistic practice, focusing on themes that have become central to his work: political sensitivity, empathy, and coexistence.

The exhibition unfolds in two conceptual parts: the space of dialogue and the intimate space.

The first section presents works created in collaboration with Ukrainian artists – Tatarczuk’s long-time friends and partners. Together, they engage in a shared conversation that leaves room for experimentation, solidarity, and intercultural exchange.

The second section reveals Tatarczuk as one of the significant European performance artists. Through documentation of actions dating back to the late 1980s, viewers can observe how the artist explores the intersections of the corporeal and the political, shaping complex yet sensitive reflections on the individual and society.

The exhibition opens with the landmark work, “Moving East.” It serves as a metaphor for the artist’s creative path – a literal and symbolic movement toward the Ukrainian cultural space, and a testimony to his continuous presence and support.

A series of public events will accompany the exhibition.
