Many people know that growing exotic plants at home is a rather difficult and painstaking process, but nurturing a child’s love of books, especially in this digital age, is no easier. That is why we want to help encourage little ones to read.
“Where do readers grow?” is a series of conversations and discussions about the sustaining power of reading aloud to children. The goal of the project: to provide parents with tools for spending quality time with their children and show ways to easily introduce the habit of reading into the family’s everyday life, and to engage in book creativity together. During our meetings, you will learn about interesting techniques and materials that can be used at home during reading sessions with children.
In particular, during the classes we will talk about modern Ukrainian books and why they are so important; about how to interact with children in a reading context and read with children of different ages (does this really require special reading skills on both sides?), choose books by Ukrainian children's authors and who they are; learn about world bestsellers of children's literature, awards and ratings, what is the role of libraries and librarians in all this. We will also destroy our own stereotypes about children's reading: why it is important for a child to have personal space and the right not to read a certain book, what to read with children at different ages - from birth, what little ones are reading now.
The finale of the project will be that parents will create their own art books for their children. Also, during the classes we will use books from our mobile children's library, which the Artsvit Gallery received last year as part of the "Suitcase with Books" project from the Goethe-Institut. And these are 22 books that were selected by experts in children's literature: Yuliya Kozlovets, Oleksandra Savchenko, Valentyna Vzdulska, Tetyana Stus, Oksana Lushchevska, Kateryna Sukhorebska and Kateryna Mikhalitsyna.
The project starts on February 22. The course consists of 8 meetings, we will meet once every two weeks, on Saturdays, at 4:00 PM.
The classes will be held at Krutogornyy Uzviz, 21a, Artsvit Gallery. Entrance through the glass sliding doors from the side of Uspenskaya Square.
