We announce the incoming launch of „Secondary Archive. Women Artists in War” project

We are extremely happy to finally announce the incoming launch of „Secondary Archive. Women Artists in War” project. Through cooperation with Artsvit Gallery based in Dnipro and Galeria Labirynt based in Lublin, we aim to preserve the crucial, often silenced experiences and material heritage of women artists facing the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The initiative would not be possible without the great support of the House of Europe — an international cooperation grant — that we have received. Thanks to the programme’s financial help, we are not only able to guarantee the visibility of Ukrainian women artists, but also properly explore and preserve the stigma of war trauma from being forgotten.

We cannot reveal too much yet, but what is certain is that this time we want to give voice to women artists who tirelessly create, bearing witness to their steadfastness in the times of war. As a result, 15 female artists of various ages will be added to the Secondary Archive platform, 10 of whom will be chosen through curator selection and 5 through an Open Call. All of the  participants will also be added to „The Sky Is Open. Voices From Ukraine” database, which is an archive of works by artists from Ukraine, created after 24th of February 2022.

The project will culminate in an exhibition at Galeria Labirynt, about which more will be said in following weeks.

Stay tuned for more details coming soon.

Next Wednesday, we’re opening an audiovisual installation based on your stories about Dnipro

“The Museum of Forgetting” is a series of projects combining research with artistic expression. It focuses on forgetting as a counterform of memory: the repression of traumatic experiences, the conscious ‘purification’ of the unwanted, gradual disappearance through physical decay, or transformation dictated by the need for renewal. These processes are viewed as multidimensional — material, ideological, collective and personal, yet both mundane and tragic.

Waldemar Tatarchuk returns to Dnipro for the closing of his exhibition and will conduct a tour!

This will be the last day of the exhibition — a kind of finale and, at the same time, an opportunity to see the project and hear about it directly from its author. During the tour, the artist will guide visitors through the exhibition and talk about the ideas behind it, as well as his collaboration with Ukrainian artists, which has become an important part of this project.
