‘According to Kyiv Time’: Presentation of Kostyantyn Doroshenko's book

We invite you to attend the presentation of the book by publicist, historian, curator, and art critic Kostyantyn Doroshenko, ‘According to Kyiv Time,’ which will take place on 12 April at 6:30 p.m. at the Artsvit Gallery. The author would also be delighted to engage in conversation with citizens of Dnipro about our culture and art during wartime.

Konstantin Doroshenko's collection of essays, ‘According to Kyiv Time,’ is a reinterpretation of his work on Ukrainian culture and society since 1995. In portraits of well-known and little-known compatriots, reviews of cultural and social events, and polemical statements, the author analyses trends in Ukraine's development as an independent state, its achievements and mistakes along the way.

His texts create a certain drama, forcing the reader to reflect on the direction of the country's movement in modern times and the crystallisation of values that Ukraine is defending today. Doroshenko's fundamental approach is Ukraine-centric, hence the title of the collection, ‘According to Kyiv Time’. The publication is intended for a wide range of readers who are interested in a view of Ukrainian history and culture based on the principles of an open society and European unity.

The book is full of little-known information about destinies, events, and personalities. In an accessible form, it appeals to the leading philosophical and political trends of our time, creates a broad field for reflection, and affirms an understanding of Ukraine's subjectivity, its historical belonging to European civilisation, and its sensitivity to freedom and democracy.

The cover design features a portrait of Kostyantyn Doroshenko by Serhiy Maidukov.

Next Wednesday, we’re opening an audiovisual installation based on your stories about Dnipro

“The Museum of Forgetting” is a series of projects combining research with artistic expression. It focuses on forgetting as a counterform of memory: the repression of traumatic experiences, the conscious ‘purification’ of the unwanted, gradual disappearance through physical decay, or transformation dictated by the need for renewal. These processes are viewed as multidimensional — material, ideological, collective and personal, yet both mundane and tragic.

This will be the last day of the exhibition — a kind of finale and, at the same time, an opportunity to see the project and hear about it directly from its author. During the tour, the artist will guide visitors through the exhibition and talk about the ideas behind it, as well as his collaboration with Ukrainian artists, which has become an important part of this project.
