Starting June 20, Artsvit Gallery launches a new children's art program: “The Strange Treats Club: Tea, Pie, and the End of the World”.
Series of 8 Saturday workshops for children aged 6–10, exploring food, imagination, art, favorite stories from books, anime, manga, and comics. Together, we will “cook up ideas” through drawing, creating objects, collages, masks, decorations and shared imaginary worlds.
On Saturdays at 11:00 a.m., participants will discover how food becomes part of artistic imagination — from the Mad Hatter’s tea party to the banquets at Hogwarts and the kitchens of dragons.
The program combines:
- contemporary art practices;
- literature;
- visual culture;
- work with materials;
- collective creation of fantasy worlds.
Program:
1. Tea Party with the Mad Hatter
with Edward Lear and Lewis Carroll
We will explore absurdity, nonsense, and strange rules. Children will create a cardboard tea party with giant utensils, invent their own limericks and design a nonsense tablecloth.
2. The Chocolate Factory
with Roald Dahl
We will discover the real and imagined history of chocolate, design chocolate wrappers with impossible properties, and create advertisements for them.
3. Banquet at Hogwarts
with J. K. Rowling
We will discuss the magical dishes of the Harry Potter universe, create Sorting Hats, invent our own Hogwarts faculties, and design decorations for the Great Hall.
4. Moomin Breakfast
with Tove Jansson
We will explore themes of coziness, family traditions, and care. Together we will build the world of Moominhouse and create a map of Moominvalley using a variety of materials.
5. What Anime Heroes Eat
with Hayao Miyazaki
We will talk about food in anime and create comics featuring favorite characters and fantastic dishes.
6. What Gruffalo Children Are Fed
with Julia Donaldson
We will invent wild and funny meals, create character masks, and explore the absurd humor of children's stories.
7. Recipes for Dragon Dishes
with Shel Silverstein
We will talk about strange creatures and fantastic recipes while creating the interior of a dragon’s kitchen.
8. Hobbit Party
with J. R. R. Tolkien
Final joint activity with parents.
