Gallery talks

Press Release

We want to learn more about you - our audience - so we are launching a series of meetings and conversations about contemporary art in the gallery.

This program aims to discuss various aspects of art and introduce it into the everyday life of as many Dnipro residents as possible. Initially, we touched upon the following issues:

- the gallery as an institution and its difference from a museum;
- about different types of exhibitions and, in particular, about Konstantin Zorkin's exhibition “Protective Layer” and the interactive project “Exhibition I Want to See”
- how to visit the same exhibition several times and see it in a new way each time;
- how to get acquainted with the exhibition;
- exhibitions of Ukrainian contemporary art before and after February 24;
- what you can and cannot do in the gallery and why.

But over time, this list has expanded significantly. In the three months that this project lasted, we held 12 meetings in two formats-lectures and discussions-where we raised many important topics.

For example, we understood how the art community functions, from art institutions to artists themselves, and considered opportunities for their cooperation. We defined what an exhibition is in the broad sense of the word, because as a form of presentation of art, they can be quite different. We also talked about online projects and podcasts, and found out what a curator does and what curating is as a phenomenon. In addition, the last two conversations were held as part of our interactive project “The Exhibition I Want to See”, where we focused on issues that have arisen due to the active use of artificial intelligence in art.

But the most important thing is that we got to know our visitors better. This is very important, given how much our audience has grown recently.

This project is now complete, but it may eventually enter its second iteration. While we are on a break, we invite you to talk to each other, and in this way our “Gallery Talks” will continue.

The curator and author of the program is our project manager Oleksandra Shovkun. She graduated from V. N. Karazin Kharkiv University with a degree in cultural studies and is currently a PhD student at the Faculty of Philosophy. She worked as an art manager at the YermilovCenter, completed the School of Mediators and gained practical experience during the Second Biennale of Young Art.

The meetings were held every Saturday at 15:00. Admission is free, but to participate you need to register for each meeting separately.
