Soon we will open an exhibition by the Kyiv graphic studio etchingroom1, entitled ‘BUS STATION’

We invite you to the opening of the exhibition by the Kyiv graphic studio etchingroom1, ‘Bus Station,’ which will take place on 23 June at 7 p.m. at the Artsvit Gallery. It will run until 23 September 2023.

With this project, artists Anna Khodkova and Kristina Yarosh from the Etching Studio continue their reflections on the feeling of loneliness in the city environment and the state of confusion. The central image of their reflections is a public transport stop, which, like a steering wheel, helps to stay on course in the frantic, sometimes chaotic flow of everyday life. It is about orientation in space and time, a point of reference in any place, even an unfamiliar one.

But what happens when the stop loses these properties — when all familiar routes are no longer valid and the timetable has disappeared from the board? The artists focus their attention on the breakdown of familiar reality, extending it to our entire existence: shops and restaurants, public utilities, minibuses, people and entire cities — all operate according to a clear schedule. If that suddenly disappears, then feelings of desolation and confusion become inevitable.

This idea is embodied in the very title of the exhibition: a stop is not only a physical object, but also the absence of movement, the freezing of normal life due to certain circumstances of force majeure. Currently, this state is familiar to almost everyone. But when a stop has already happened on the way, it is probably worth taking advantage of it — whether for rest and reflection, or for the search for alternative horizons.

WHERE: Artsvit Gallery, Dnipro, 21a Krutohirnyy Uzviz. Entrance through the sliding doors from the side of Uspenska Square
