Pop-up exhibition and zine presentation: results of last year's residency for young artists

Last summer, we hosted our first residency for young artists. For two weeks, participants stayed at the DCCC, met with artists and curators, attended lectures, and much more. This Saturday at 6 p.m., there will be a pop-up exhibition and presentation of a zine based on the results of this residency.

The exhibition features artworks, photographs, and posters that are part of the participants' joint samizdat. These are reflections on the educational context of the residency, the local environment, and their own creative activities.

The works presented in the exhibition are the participants' reflections on the summer residency at the Centre for Contemporary Culture in Dnipro, which brought together young people from the city and related people (from Kharkiv, Melitopol, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, Luhansk and Berlin). In order to preserve their own expressions, the residents created a joint zine using contemporary art techniques that interested them:

"We made a mini-magazine to capture our initial stage and give an impression of the start in this form. Some of us will become famous, some already are, and some will change their field of activity altogether. This is a zine that we will leaf through in the future, remembering the warm August days at DCCC."

After a collective viewing of the exhibition, residency participant Anna Galasyuk will present the performance ‘Area of Isolation’:

‘The term “isolated area” refers to a zone where elements are separated to achieve specific goals: security, control, or prevention of influence. Dnipro was such a place until the early 1990s.’

The Open Call for Residency in Performative Practices

Together with the residency curator, Waldemar Tatarczuk, we propose to explore performance as an intermedial method of artistic practice — one that allows for experimental approaches to creative processes where action, time, presence, and lived experience become the material.

We welcome applications from performers, theatre practitioners, and people open to collective experimentation with backgrounds in visual arts, contemporary music, DJing, generative media, writing, drag, and other artistic disciplines.
