We continue to talk about new female artists who joined the Secondary Archive project in its second edition "Women Artists at War", namely Olya Yeremeeva, Sana Shakhmuradova Tanska and Yulia Danylevska. You can read their statements at secondaryarchive.org.
♦ Olia Yeriemieieva was born in Kyiv, where she continues to live and create. Her art explores the fear of loss and the preservation of memories, shaped by personal experiences of death and the impact of war on Ukraine. Through photography and self-portraiture, she confronts themes of love, beauty, and gender roles, documenting the tumultuous realities of conflict and the resilience of the human spirit.
♦ Sana Shahmuradova Tanska was born in Odesa and emigrated to Canada with her family in 2013, but decided to return to Kyiv, where she continues to work on art and engage in voluntary work for Ukraine since the war. Her background in arts in psychology shines through her art, where she builds on the theories of generational trauma and the power of intuition. A lot of her paintings have a dreamlike nature and are dedicated to understanding the ancestors of her homeland.
♦ Yuliia Danylеvska was born and raised in Kherson, where she spent 8 months under siege in 2022. She follows her intuition in a creative process and works with tiles to record her experiences of the Russian occupation. The artwork symbolically reinterprets the new ordinary emerging amidst conflict, blending folklore, humour, and subtle critique to translate the complexities of survival and resistance in wartime.
