OPEN CALL »Crossing«

Artsvit Gallery and Verein PAErsche Aktions-Labor e.V. would like to invite Ukrainian and German artists up to 35 years of age to apply to participate in »Crossing«.

»Crossing« is a two weeks online residency and exchange between young German and Ukranian performance artists. The project will take place from 13th to 26th of July 2020. 

During the two-week online residency, the participating performance artists will enter into an artistic exchange with each other as hosts and at the same time as guests. Through performances, spaces, methods and questions will be opened up and shared in virtual space.

In the process, the performances form the basis for subjective localization as well as for the exploration and exchange of differences and cultural spaces and practices.

The participation will be rewarded with an expense allowance and will receive copies of the subsequent publication of the project

The application must include:

– Short biography (max 250 words)

– Artist statement (max 250 words)

– 2 images of your works, containing title and year

– Link to website/blog, if applicable

Create PDF file and name it: Crossing_OpenCall_YourName

The PDF should not exceed 3 MB.

Collection Online: New Perspectives

We are excited to invite you to a long-awaited event for the Artsvit team — the presentation of the gallery’s collection website next Friday!

We are Starting the Lecture Programme «Ukrainian Art: Decolonizing Perspectives» This September

«Ukrainian Art: Decolonizing Perspectives» is a series of lectures running from mid-September to mid-November. Invited speakers include Kateryna Yakovlenko, Oksana Barshynova, Anastasiia Manuliak, Aliona Penzii, Alya Segal, Sviatoslav Chyruk and others.

The programme examines the colonial influence on several generations of Ukrainians from different angles of view, with particular attention to Dnipro and the eastern regions of Ukraine. Many of us grew up in an environment where Russian narratives dominated in education, in the media, and in the art. Today, we critically rethinking the contours and extent of this influence and learning to distinguish what is ours from what was imposed on us. This is not only a cultural process but also a personal one: a process of reclaiming an identity alienated by Moscow-centrism and russification.
